BELÉN
CORTÉS
Based in Extremadura, Spain, Belén Cortés is a multimedia interdisciplinary artist whose practice weaves a personal mythology by rewriting/rerepresenting/creating variations of several themes into a speculative history of the relationship between nature and technology.
Fascinated by the potential of a “cyborg-self,” her recent projects explore how individuals might merge with technology to foster deeper, more sustainable ways of living and thinking. She combines expressive, experimental gestures with a refined sensitivity across media, exploring themes of memory, folklore, and science fiction.
Her photography, video work and installations delve into memory and transformation, reflecting her belief in art as a vital force for change that touches us on social and subconscious levels. Continuing into digital media, she explores video games as video essays and incorporates digital art with live performance, creating immersive experiences that blur the boundaries between digital identity and the physical world.
